One of our favorite dress codes is the cocktail attire, because a) we are ladies and b) it is almost a requirement to wear a “little black dress”. And who doesn’t look great in black? It is the epitome of grace and elegance. Every lady would agree that you can never look wrong in a black cocktail dress.
But of course, cocktail dress code is not only a black dress for ladies. You can wear any dress in any color (preferably dark), which ranges in length from just above the knee to about two inches above the ankle. And the more elegant the dress the better.
In addition to your dress you can wear sandals or pumps, jewelry appropriate to the occasion and a wrap, to cover your shoulders. If you are attending a wedding or an outside summer event, you can consider wearing a hat.
The important thing to remember is to keep your look elegant and reserved, not over-the-top and not to upstage the hostess.
